Born in British waters back in 1987, over the past three decades we’ve built on our board-sports heritage and have grown to become a leading lifestyle clothing brand. Today, we’re passionate about the Animal way of life and we’re on a mission to be kinder to the world around us; we’ve changed how we design and make our products to develop more sustainable clothes that will last the ride.
The Skopes brand was born in 1948 post war Britain when Sydney Cope established the business in Leeds, the heart of the textile and tailoring industry in England. Utilising the latest machining advances of the time, the factory produced the highest quality bespoke trousers using fabrics sourced from Yorkshire’s finest mills.
The Skopes name became renowned for its use of cavalry twills, corduroy from the village of Hebden Bridge and the finest worsteds from Huddersfield, the heart of the world’s textile production. By maintaining its commitment to high quality, the Skopes brand soared in popularity, leading to Geoffrey Cope, son of the founder Sydney, establishing a ready to wear line of men’s clothing.
In 1987 the family business moved on a generation as Simon Cope, grandson of founder Sydney Cope, took over the rein. Simon began to develop into new market areas, supplying casual wear and accessories for a younger audience which was expressing its own style and demands on brands.
Since the birth of the brand, one thing has remained constant; the highest quality, delivered through the Cope family tailoring traditions.
Right from the start, POLICE has stood for defining your own style – one that lives and thrives away from the catwalks and transient trends. It explored the excitement and independence of underground US culture. From that generation onwards, the brand has always spoken the language of freedom and rebellion. POLICE was and is daring. Both in its style and in the quality, the innovation, the pioneering design of its collections. POLICE is asserting your own personality. The early days of rugged, on-the-road imagery might be over. But audacity and determination are still very much part of the POLICE DNA. The POLICE story isn’t merely that of a brand. It’s a 35 year old evolution of the idea of freedom.
Building on its growing identity, over the years, the brand has established itself to be a veritable lifestyle benchmark. This has been portrayed by important brand ambassadors, such as Bruce Willis, David Beckham, Neymar Jr , and currently, Lewis Hamilton.

The Pavers story began over 50 years ago in York. Founded by Catherine Paver, a mother to three boys, she had big dreams of changing the world of footwear and a passion to provide comfortable and stylish shoes to all. Cathy went to the bank for a business loan and was told it couldn’t be done. So, with her tenacious and determined spirit, Cathy returned, taking out a £200 loan for what they believed was for a sofa, and this is where Pavers Shoes was born.
Created from small beginnings, Pavers Shoes has grown to be a UK leader in today’s comfort footwear industry, continuing as an independent, family-run business. With almost 50 years of shoe-fitting knowledge behind us and an innovative spirit inherited by Cathy, our homegrown heritage and family values remain firmly at the core of everything that we do.
